Heart Awareness Month

February is Heart Awareness Month. There are so many ways to make sure that we are taking healthy steps to ensure cardiovascular health. According to the Centers for Disease Control, it’s essential to be active, avoid smoking, eat healthy options, and drink plenty of water. The heart is a foundational piece of our body’s structure. We must take care of it.

The issue that many of us have is our schedules. It’s much easier to grab fast food when we are on the go. It’s also difficult to find time in our lives to implement exercise when we are bogged down with work and taking care of our families. However, there are some easy ways to implement healthy lifestyles.

We can add additional steps by avoiding elevators at work. We can also have walking breaks and shift our schedules so that we can focus thirty minutes to an hour each day on some sort of exercise. This doesn’t require a gym membership. We can walk in our neighborhood or do some at-home work outs. We can find many at-home workout options by doing a simple YouTube search on a mobile device. Any time committed to exercise is better than none.

It's also essential to ensure that our bodies are getting adequate amounts of water each day. I have found it much easier to increase my water intake by simply carrying around a container with me. Some of these containers have measurement lines so that we can see how much water we are drinking. These containers can be expensive. However, there are cheaper alternatives at department stores and online.

The most important step in taking care of our bodies is the very first step we take. It’s easy to get discouraged when we feel like we miss our target. However, every small achievement adds up quickly.
